Cheerleading FAQ
TOMAHAWKS CHEERLEADING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can my children be on the same team?
A cheerleader may move up or down two (2) grade levels to cheer with or for a sibling.  This rule applies to siblings only and any cheerleader requesting the move will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate with their registration.  There are no exceptions to this rule.

Is everyone that is registered placed on a squad?
Not always.  Due to the limited size of the squads, cheerleaders will be placed on a first come, first serve basis.  Once all the squads are full within the age group, registrants will be placed on a waiting list.  Registration fees will only be charged to those placed with a squad.  Returning cheerleaders will have priority over new registrants.

Are there any additional costs relating to Cheerleading that the Registration Fee does not cover?
Yes. The registration fee for Cheerleading covers the vest, socks, poms, skirt, briefs, shoes, cheer bag, warm up, cheer clinic, clinic t-shirt and turtleneck, Items not included are: trophies, after game drinks, hair accessories, rain and cold weather wear and year end banquet. etc. These expenses may vary among teams. There is also a Fundraiser Fee of $40 that will be due prior to uniform distribution.

What is the Tomahawk Fundraiser?
Each year the Tomahawk organization sells Tomahawk Cards.  These are wallet size cards that have discounts for area businesses on them.  Each participant will pay $40.00 and receive 10 cards that may sell for $5.00 each.

What do I wear to practice and games?
For practices wear comfortable shorts or sweats, T-shirts or sweatshirts.  Gym shoes only.  Absolutely no sandals, dresses, skirts, short tops or jeans. For games you will wear the uniform provided to you. Hair must be pulled back away from the face at all times at practice and games. All cheerleaders must be dressed alike to perform at games or at functions that require them to be in uniform.

May I bring a drink or snack to practice or a game?
Only water bottles are allowed at practice and the games. Insulated, leak proof water bottles work best and should be clearly marked with your name.  No sweet drinks or sodas, they will attracts bees.  No food is allowed taken in to any of the away fields as all of the organizations have concession stands as fundraisers.  No eating or drinking in uniform before or during a game is allowed.

May I wear jewelry or make up?
NO!!  Stud earrings that coordinate with Lakota Colors (Black, Red, White, Gold, Silver) are the ONLY exception.  No hoops or dangle earrings of any kind are permitted. No make up will be allowed during games, this includes nail polish, temporary tattoos, body glitter, etc.  Hairspray, perfume or any kind of perfumed lotions will attract bees. Only your hair bow and non-metal hair accessories should be worn.

What if I am absent or late to practice or a game?
It is very difficult to be coordinated with the squad if you have missed practices.  If you do not know a cheer or dance at a game you may be asked to sit on the side while the squad performs that cheer or dance.

Your coach must be notified 3 hours prior to practice or game time.  If your coach is not notified, this is considered unexcused.  There are consequences for absences (see next item).  A tardy is considered arriving late for a practice or a game or leaving practice or a game early.

What are the consequences for being tardy or absent?
Three tardy or absences or one unexcused absence can result in the athlete being “benched” for the first half of the next game.  A fourth offense can result in the athlete being “benched” for a whole game. The cheerleader must still attend the game to support her team.  Failure to comply will result in dismissal from the program.

Do parents have to attend practices and games?
You may drop off your child at practice once the coach has arrived. On game days a parent must escort each squad member in and out of the field. The coach will set a designated place and will meet parents there before and after the game. After a practice or game the parent must come to the coach to pick up your child.  No child will be released to anyone other than a parent or a previously designated adult .

Please do not be tardy picking up your child. If a parent is more than 10 minutes late picking up their child without notifying the coach, the child will be benched 10 minutes of the next game for every occurrence
